Manuscript Types and Submission Requirements

Preparing Your Paper

To ensure a smooth publication process, please adhere to the following guidelines when preparing your manuscript.

Topics

1. Food Safety and Quality: Innovations in food safety protocols, quality control measures, and their impact on consumer trust.
2. Sustainability and Food Systems: Research on sustainable practices in food production, distribution, and consumption, and their implications for global food security.
3. Consumer Behavior and Perceptions: Studies on consumer attitudes towards food products, health claims, and marketing strategies.
4. Food Policy and Regulation: Analysis of food policies, regulations, and their effects on public health and industry practices.
5. Communication Strategies: Effective methods for disseminating food-related information to various audiences, including public health campaigns and media strategies.

Language Requirements

• Manuscripts must be written in clear and concise English.

Article Types

Food Communications accepts various article types, including: Original Research Articles, Review Articles, Short Communications, Case Studies, and Commentaries. Please ensure your submission aligns with the scope of the journal and the characteristics of your chosen article type.
1. Original Research Articles

• Word Count: Maximum of 8,000 words (including main text and figure/table legends, but excluding references).
• Figures/Tables: Up to 6-8 figures and tables.
• Abstract: Up to 250 words.
• References: Maximum of 50 references.

2. Review Articles

• Word Count: Maximum of 10,000 words (including main text and figure/table legends, but excluding references).
• Figures/Tables: Up to 8-10 figures and tables.
• Abstract: Up to 300 words.
• References: Maximum of 100 references.

3. Short Communications

• Word Count: Maximum of 3,000 words (including main text, figure/table legends, and references).
• Figures/Tables: Up to 2-3 figures and tables.
• Abstract: Up to 150 words.
• References: Maximum of 20 references.

4. Case Studies

• Word Count: Maximum of 5,000 words (including main text, figure/table legends, and references).
• Figures/Tables: Up to 4-5 figures and tables.
• Abstract: Up to 200 words.
• References: Maximum of 30 references.

5. Commentaries

• Word Count: Maximum of 2,000 words (including main text and references).
• Figures/Tables: Optional, up to 1 figure and table.
• Abstract: No abstract required.
• References: Maximum of 10 references.

6. Position Papers

• Word Count: Maximum of 7,000 words (including main text, figure/table legends, and references).
• Figures/Tables: Up to 5-6 figures and tables.
• Abstract: Up to 200 words.
• References: Maximum of 40 references.

Formatting Requirements

• Font and Layout: Use 12-point Times New Roman font, double spacing, and 1-inch margins on all sides.
• Sections: Manuscripts should include the following sections: Title Page, Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, References, and any Acknowledgments.
• Headings: Use a consistent style for section headings (e.g., bold and numbered).

Figures and Tables Guidelines

• Figures: Provide figures in high-resolution formats (JPEG, PNG, or TIFF), with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi.
• Tables: Format tables to be clear and concise. Include them either within the main text or as separate files. Tables should have descriptive titles and legends.

Supplementary Material

Authors are encouraged to submit supplementary materials such as datasets, videos, or extended figures. Supplementary files should be submitted in commonly used formats and clearly labeled.

Checklist: What to Include

Before submission, please ensure your manuscript package includes:

Ethics Statement

• Conflict of Interest: Authors must declare any potential conflicts of interest.
• Funding Disclosure: All sources of funding must be acknowledged.
• Ethical Approval: Studies involving human or animal subjects must include a statement of ethical approval from the relevant institutional review board (IRB) or ethics committee.

For studies involving human participants, informed consent must be obtained from all participants. For minors or incapacitated adults, consent must be obtained from a legal guardian. This must be stated in the manuscript.

Health and Safety

Authors are responsible for ensuring that their research complies with all relevant health and safety regulations. If the work involves hazardous materials or procedures, appropriate safety measures must be described.

Submitting Your Paper

1. File Formats: Submissions should include editable source files (e.g., Microsoft Word for text and Excel for tables).
2. Submission Portal: Manuscripts should be submitted through the journal’s submission system or via email at office@fsmile.org.
3. File Naming: Name your files clearly, e.g., "MainText_FirstAuthor.docx" or "Figure1.tiff."
4. Confirmation: Authors will receive a confirmation email upon successful submission.

• Copyright: Authors retain copyright under a Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY).
• Open Access: All articles are freely accessible to readers. No article processing charges (APCs) are applied for members of the Non-Profit Organization of Food Society of Modern International Lifestyle Education (NPOFSMILE).

Complying with Funding Agencies

Authors whose research is supported by funding agencies that require open access publication should ensure their submission complies with their funder's policies. We support various compliance routes; please consult our policy on funder mandates.
